New Musical: IN THE HEIGHTS

People frequently ask me what I'd want to see if I went to Broadway. This year my answer is IN THE HEIGHTS. Not just because it won the Tony Award for Best Original Musical 2008, but because this is the type of show that should be made more often. And the quality of choreography might have something to do with it....

Thanx, Bill. I hope this slightly explains my wince when you said you were going to see Wicked-- it's just such a fad-- no one knows about the great new stuff.

In my defense, I've been wanting to see Wicked since BEFORE it was such a fad. I just love the music and the story, especially some of the clever twists in the lyrics. "A celebration throughout Oz that's all to do with me..." "Life's more painless for the brainless..." The little hints and such. :-D And the thing is, I've introduced SO many different people to it over the past several years, and it seems that all of them have gotten to see it since then, but I never has.

So basically, I've been wanting to see Wicked since it WAS the great new stuff. Don't begrudge me that. You've got to realize, along with the assumption that just because something's popular, that doesn't mean it's good, there's ALSO the fact that just because something's popular, that doesn't mean it's bad.

Defensive, I see. In that case I won't jibe you about using the word "popular" on purpose.

Well that was glib. :-p
